I hate going to the doctor when I’m sick, even at home. However, I don’t have much choice at the moment. I’ve developed a really bad throat infection that requires medication, so its off to the doctor for me.
My sweetheart’s sister took me there. There’s a doctor just around the corner from where we live. She comes in the morning, and again in the evening, to a small consulting room. It’s not necessary to make an appointment.
After examining me, the doctor opened the draw of her desk to reveal a huge tray full of pills. There were so many different shapes and sizes, in a rainbow of colours. She selected a handful of them, told me to take them three times a day, and sent me on my way. The cost? 100 rupees ($3).
I’d heard about the marvels of Indian mystery medicine and how it could make you feel better within a day, but I was dubious. Up until now, that was. After swallowing all these multicoloured pills, I really did start feeling better! I don’t know what the medicine consisted of, but it really helped.

It was probably one Antibiotic and one Anti Allergic plus a vitamin. Hehe. That’s what most docs do. Many times when my throat is bad I take a Augmentin 625 thrice a day plus a Cetrizine at night time before bed and a Vitamin B complex once a day. Simple. It works.
Scene 1 :
My Indian friend who was in USA for 3 months, managed to cut his fingers while working in kitchen. His roommates called up 2-3 doctors in the area and all of them denied to see him. Reason was that they did no have his history. All suggested to take him to nearest hospital which was few miles away. Luckily they had car so they took him to hospital and could get him treated.
Scene 2:
I had got burn on my ankle on my goa trip, due to hot motorcycle exhaust. After returning, I tried looking up for doctors in my area to get a Anti-Tetanus shot (I had shifted here few months ago). I found few but they were not even MBBS by qualification.
Later I found one and his clinic was exactly 10 feet by 10feet, including waiting area, his chair, patient chair and examination feet examination table (I am 6 feet).
I had reached by 8.30 and his time was 8.30. One lady was sitting in his chair who was compunder. The guy came at 8.45 and lady left. Till this time, I was thinking that doctor’s room is somewhere inside!
By that time people had gathered and one old man went in directly though he came after me. When my turn came, he took a blank chit and wrote name of injection and asked me to get it from shop next door.
I got it (and a disposable syringe, without him telling) and then he quickly did with it. Charged me INR 20 (<half USD)
Not to mention I will not go to him again
