10 Days Remaining Until Our Wedding

in Adjusting to India, Getting Married

I am stressed. I will be getting married in 10 days time. The wedding invitations are still being printed. I don’t have my dress or jewellery. My friends and family are arriving in less than a week. Six of them have never been to India before, and will require quite a bit of looking after. I want to have plenty of time to spend with them and take them sightseeing, and not have to be bothered with last minute wedding plans.

I’ve tried to get as much as possible organised for the wedding, but I’m so helpless. I don’t know where to get things from. I don’t know what type of sari I should be wearing for the wedding.

My soon to be in-laws have been particularly “Indian”, and have not been concerned about time frames. My soon to be husband has become tired of my nagging about needing to get everything done.

Then, early this morning we received a phone call from my soon to be sister-in-law. FINALLY, everyone has woken up to the fact that there isn’t much time remaining until the wedding. Orders were given. Phone calls were made.

Apparently, we will be getting 50 of the wedding invitations from the printer tonight. Too bad that I doubt they’ll reach Australia in time for the guests to receive them.

I have to go shopping for my wedding sari this afternoon. Too bad that I already had other plans. I will have to cancel them.

I feel so exasperated and frustrated. I was trying to get all these things planned and done weeks ago. I guess I have to accept that this is all part of being Indian though.

I think chaos & confusion go hand in hand wid Indian weddings.Imagine if da wedding wer 2 take place according 2 2 different traditions at da same tym!In my marriage, der wer 2 pandits-1 frm my hubby’s side & da odr frm my dad’s side.Acclording 2 my hubby’s side, bride & groom exchange rings at the mandap, but in Punjab v hav roka ceremony werin my dad had gifted da wedding ring 2 my hubby. So at da tym of marriage,he had worn it & his Panditji didnt lyk it,so a war began betwn da 2 pandits.Den again,in Punjabis sindoor is put wid coin,bt in Bihar it is put differently,so again der was difference of opinions. My sis-in-law had forgotten da alta at da hotel,so in da middle of da ceremonies, she went der,got it,applied it to my heels, den da marriage proceeded.Total chaos!Oh God!I cant explain how tired I & my hubby wer aftr da wedding was over!
