The monsoon sneaked into Mumbai on Friday night, while most people were asleep. According to the weather forecast, it wasn’t due for another three days!
After so much anticipation, it’s been quite disappointing really.
I was awake in the night, and heard what must have been the monsoon announcing its arrival. Actually, it was hard to get to sleep. The thunder was booming. The lightning lit up the bedroom at times. I commented to my husband, if this is pre-monsoon showers, what is the monsoon going to be like?
But what do you know, the unpredictability of India has won again. It actually was the monsoon!
Yesterday was an unremarkable day where we live. There was a bit of rain. It started slowly though, and I went out without an umbrella.
Other parts of Mumbai weren’t so fortunate, however.
Despite the municipal council praising itself about all the work it had done to prepare for this monsoon, there was flooding up to people’s waists in some parts of the city. Two people have been killed. Over 100 trees have fallen, and flights and trains have been delayed.
The boys from our apartment complex are having a great time though. Today they’re playing soccer in the rain.
