I thought new year’s eve had lost its appeal to me. The new year’s eve before this one, I was at home in Melbourne reading a book (although I did go to a party on new year’s day). Fortunately, things changed this year.
A friend of ours hired a bungalow on Madh Island, just of the coast of northern Mumbai, and had a small party for around 50 people there. This is quite a popular thing to do for new year’s eve in Mumbai.
The setup and music were both fantastic. The friend had gone to the effort of hiring lights and speakers, as well as brought his own DJ equipment along. He even organised food for everyone.
As the clock struck midnight, we danced under the lasers while sparkly confetti rained down on us.
There were enough DJs present to keep the music going all night. I went to bed sometime around 3 a.m., but was up again at 8 a.m. The music wouldn’t let me sleep.
We ate vada pav and other snacks for breakfast.
And kept partying, until a bus load of born again Christians arrived to hold a sermon at the bungalow next door. You just never know what will happen in India! They seemed to be more interested in our party than theirs though.
By this time, it was nearly midday. Time to pack up and go home, via Aksa beach.
Happy new year everyone!

How fantastic! What kind of music dose your partener mix?
Pretty much everything.
He’s currently into progressive and techno in a huge way, but used to play a lot of hip hop and psychedelic… and of course Bollywood (which has to be the case in India, although most DJs really don’t like playing it!).
