It’s really strange. I spent so much time complaining about and struggling against India last year. These days, I’m looking forward to going back there. I’m not seeing life in Australia through rose coloured glasses anymore, now that I’m actually in the country.
There are problems in Australia too, just like in India and everywhere else.
Much to my dismay, the internet wasn’t working one day. My father, who wants to complete a transaction, has been told five different things by five different people. In addition, Australia seems to be acquiring more and more ridiculous rules.
I arrived home to raging bush fires all over the state of Victoria. One of them had been started within a kilometre of my parents’ house. People were terribly upset. They claimed that the fires could’ve been prevented if they’d been allowed to back-burn and clear trees from their properties. The fire authorities had instructed them to carry out these activities. However, upon attempting to do so, the property owners were fined by their municipal councils. The reason? Conservationists and the government had banned such fire prevention activities.
I’d expect two government bodies to conflict with each other in India. However, in Australia it’s terribly disappointing.
So, I’ve resolved to return to India with an open mind and heart. Despite the country’s frustrations, there are so many things I do like about it. I’ve spent so much time focusing on the negatives. Now I’ll start focusing on the positives.

See, there you go. India has something common with Australia now.
