Post image for Funny Photo – Why Are These Indians Lining Up?

I took this funny India photo at Calicut airport in Kerala. The passengers had disembarked and were waiting in the usual disorderly manner for the transfer bus, that would take them the terminal, to arrive.

All of a sudden, they quietly formed themselves into this line. It surprised me, because Indians are not known for their queuing ability.

I looked around, but the transfer bus was nowhere in sight.

I was confused. What could they be doing?

After a while, it finally dawned on me. Escaping from the sun of course! They’re all assembled in the shade under the wing of the plane.

I started feeling quite ridiculous, being the only person to remain standing out in the open!

Haha, that’s great! It reminds me of when my husband and I are at the pool together. I’m lying in the sun, trying to get as dark as possible. But he’s hiding in the shade, trying to avoid getting any darker! ;-)

I ran into a similar issue at Pune airport (their window counters are outside). I was looking for the ticket counter line and only seeing many people standing around. Finally I asked someone who pointed in a particular direction, I looked, saw a large line of people standing in the shade near the windows and thought that was it. So I got in the back of the line. And waited and waited and waited and waited and started to get nervous about buying a plane ticket on time…so asked again and found that they were only standing there because it had shade!!!

The moral of the story — never join a line that’s in the shade in India! :-P

Sharell, you know what is kind of funny I live in small town USA in PA well some of the things they do in India they do here kind of, if something is outside you will see people standing in the shade so many of times I thought it was the line and here it was not. One time I needed something at lowes so I got told to stand in one line that someone would help me, so I was next in line got told nope sorry you have to go the other end of the store, only to get their and get told nope you have to go back to the other end! It’s kind of funny how we live so far apart in different cultures but yet some how kind have the same issues/problems.

Gosh, that is quite funny, and quite alarming! Good preparation for India I guess. :-D It just goes to show that we can find unlikely things in common with cultures all over the world if we really look for it.

This is hilarious! Also, something to think about how it could be used in other situations :o )
