Normally, I’m not much of an early morning person but this sun rise was one worth waking up for. It started off with hues of deep red and orange, then progressed to bright golden yellow as the sun rose higher.
Watching the valley come alive, illuminated in the sun’s warm glow, was such an energising experience. The swirling mist and intermittent bird calls made it even more enchanting.
I was blessed with this glorious view from the balcony of my cottage at Glenora Homestay in the Wayanad district of Kerala, in south India.
There are two cottages, which are built on concrete stilts into the side of the slope. They cost 5,500 rupees ($US 115) per night, including breakfast.
The homestay is located on a 90 acre coffee and spice plantation. The road leading through the estate is thick with vegetation, including coconut palms, jack fruit trees, and stunning red hibiscus flowers.
The host also has a wonderful organic fruit and vegetable garden. The produce, including fresh guava and limes, was so succulent. You really can taste the difference when eating organic food.
Sunrise Point is a popular attraction that’s only a short two minute drive from the homestay. The view is stunning at any time of the day.
I filled up on traditional Kerala style food for breakfast and dinner. The cuisine is predominantly coconut based and not too spicy. The host also served me some yummy home made champa fruit wine (yes, it was alcoholic!). Of course, as is to be expected on a coffee estate, there was no shortage of fresh filter coffee either.

Thank you so sharing those photos with us what breath take view of the valley, I’m sure you had great time.
It was magical. I feel so fortunate and blessed.
How lush, green and refreshing is all looks and must have been after being in Mumbai summer. Those guava and limes are great, all you need is some vodka, ice and a blender and you have cocktail time!!!!
Awwwww…. cocktail time….my mouth is watering at the thought! Wish I was back there!!!
Oh come on now … you can get fresh guava, lime and vodka in Mumbai too can’t you?? It is almost weekend
But it’s the setting, PGB, the setting!
But yes, I think I will be going out for a cocktail tonight!
Hole in one sharell, Location is key. I mean look! “Hows the serenity?”(haha). Such a great friday blog. Im going to grab some bubbles and stare longingly at your pictures and start cocktail hour now!
I understand Chowpatty beach may not exactly be quite and serene
….. I would’nt know though I have never been to Mumbai or Wayanad for that matter. But in the next 6 months I am pretty sure I will be visiting these places
Hahaha, the serenity, V you make me laugh. PGB is obviously not an “ideas man”! (No offence PGB, we’re oddly quoting from an Australian movie called The Castle — which incidentally I brought with me to Mumbai so my husband could get a dose of Aussie culture!!
It’s gone straight to the pool room). Damn Australian time being ahead of Mumbai time… I’ve still got hours of work to go. As for Chowpatty (and its Juhu counterpart), they are like circuses!! I kid you not. Juhu even has performing monkeys roaming around on a Sunday!! You must come and check it out! Or I may even post a pic for you.
hahaha …”The Castle” …. Eric Bana’s debut movie ?? I am a big fan of “Chopper”
PGB — I am very impressed!!! You are an absolute legend and should go “straight to the pool room” yourself!
Nice… very nice.
Eric Bana.. even nicer. I had no idea he was Australian.
I have linked your blog on one of my blogposts. I couldnt find your email on the blog so I have to let you know on this unrelated blogpost. Do you have an email here that I overlooked? I have questions about an impending visit to Kolkata! You stayed there for a bid, didnt you?
bit… not bid… my poor rain soaked brain! *sigh*
