As far as I know, hyperkinetic is pshychiatric term meaning hyperactivity, restlessness and extreme nervousness (especially in children) – I’m not a child though :D

Telepathy is the rare ability of mentally communicating with a person in either long or short distance – that’s me, siree! :D

  • Ramit, again, you are a great person! Thank you for understanding.

I truly enjoy Sangeeta’s blog, her recipes are simple, tasty and accesible for anyone. It offers nice tips too! The ayurveda blog is very interesting as well (even if we can barely find any coconuts here :D !)

And yes, Indian food is quite complex and it’s one of the best in the world. If you guys could carry on your daily duties and stay healthy and fit, it means your body gets all the nutrients it needs, so why bother with meat? :D In my case, it’s a little bit difficult to relinquish it though…

  • Dear Shaunak,

When I first started posting, I didn’t know you and I didn’t know what to believe, since we were having all sort of arguments. But now I’ve come to see a bit of how you are and I realise you never say anything with a bad intention. You are really intelligent, kind and polite, these things I will always appreciate in you.

And most important, you are a good friend. You defended Ramit when you sensed something wrong and that’s the nicest thing. I wish I had friends like that myself. The only reason i didn’t disclose my address was out of respect for my committment. Nothing to do with Ramit, for whom I have enormous appreciation. I really hope he understands and didn’t take it personally.

  • Dear Shaunak,

I don’t understand exactly how you feel I misunderstood Ramit. I am a sincere person and I always speak my mind. If I feel like saying anything tough (but true!), i would say it, if I feel like joking, I would joke, even if sometimes it happens that I take so much liberty in doing it. My honesty in relating with people has been sometimes a quality, other times a curse. For instance, here on this blog, my (honest) views got me into all sort of polemics. And as far as I can notice, I upset you again (hmmm…. did I upset Ramit also??)

I was only joking with Ramit – I respect him so much and he is one of the nicest persons on this blog. I didn’t say anything with the intention to offend him or make him feel strange. I tend to be a bit cautious with people though, since I’ve always had a problem of trust. It is just my nature as a girl and a committed one – but, again, please, it should be clear – I didn’t do anything to specifically make anyone feel bad.

And you shouldn’t use any harsh words regarding the Eastern Europe, like “will learn your lessons the hard way”. It is not my lesson to be learned. I am not responsable for the choices of Eastern European women in marriage. Everyone marries who they think it’s a good and durable choice for them.

  • Nice link!! Loved the recipes, thanks Ramit! :D

You have a blog of your own? :)

  • Well, I am communicating… Can’t you feel me intruding there, in your mind? I can tell you’re thinking this girl is fabulating :D As for Abdullah, I am shy to say what he is thinking of :D

How would my e-mail address help you? I can guess what’s on your mind pretty easily here ;) or i can read your future in your palm. By the way, you have a looooooong life line :)

I have a question that’s been on my mind for quite some time now. And although I’ve been reading Sharell’s posts frequently still haven’t got an answer for it. I would like to adress it especially to Indian men (readers) here – Do Indian men in general really like white women? I suppose there are people who do and who don’t, obviously, but I mean in general. Do they find white women attractive?

So, when they stare – why exactly is it for? Being they like what they see or because they see white woman as some sort of alien/freak who landed in India?

Dear Claudia,

You are indeed very beautiful . Your beauty outshines that of the Taj Mahal . Personally speaking I don’t like the Taj Mahal . For me Taj Mahal is a drab , dull monument of marble that should be demolished . Taj Mahal has two dark truths associated with it .
The Tajmahal is actually Tejomahalay – A Hindu Temple .
You can refer to the the well known historian Shri. P. N. Oak’s celebrated book titled ” Tajmahal : The True Story”. The Muslim/Mughal rulers in India were very cruel .

2) Shahjahan is believed to have chopped off the hands of 17000 artisans who built the Taj Mahal because he (Shahjahan) was concerned that the artisans who built the Taj Mahal may again build a replica of the same mausoleum in some other country .

Dear Shaunak,

This left me speachless, i dont even know what to say :) Thank you really from the heart for your nice words. It is a wonderful compliment for me, who I see the Taj Mahal as the supreme Indian construction. But i see it, obviously, through the eyes of a foreigner. I understand completely what you mean – once you know the real history behind a monument or work of art, you see it with different eyes.

In my country, we have the House of People (presently the House of Parliament) – it’s the largest building in Europe, they say. I wont affirm i dont like its imposant appearance. It’s one of the atractions of my city, Bucharest. Foreigners go “ooh”, “ahhh” and “wow” when they see it. But a whole historical district, full of old monasteries, manor houses and gardens, which represented our cultural heritage, were destroyed to make room for that mastodont. Hundreds of people were left without a home. I suppose many other valuable treasures today, that get so much public praise and admiration, were built on the suffering and desperation of hundreds or thousands of people.

P.S. I will be young forever! (in my heart) :D

@ Shaunak Goshwami – “There is a Russian restaurent , Bline at Anand Niketan , Delhi . The atmosphere in Bline is a world away from the boisterous Punjabiness that is the average Delhi restaurant.”

Bline’s is a stone’s throw away from my place. I think the lack of Punjabis in a Russian eatery can be explained by their palates – Punabis prefer spicy food.

@ Ramit – “I’d love to take you out for dinner.”

I am not sure I like the sound of that.

@ CG – “Shaunak, next time you go try Zakuska – there’s nothing better.”

Do you mean zakuski?

@ Shaunak Goswami – “Indians are genetically pre-disposed to obesity , heart disease and diabetes.”

I am not sure if genetics is the culprit. Your alternate theory is closer to reality – an affinity to fatty foods and an aversion to physical exertion is the culprit. Overweight people are starting to show up in East Europe as well, especially in the more Americanised countries like Czech Republic, Georgia and Slovakia. I call it the “McDonalds and Coke Effect”.

@ CG – “One more think I would like to know: are Indians sports-oriented? Is exercising daily a part of their routine?”

I was about to frame a reply when I found Shaunak Goshwami did it much better and more elaborate than I possibly could.

@ Shaunak Goswami – “The youngsters of my age group ( 20-25 years) are health conscious and go to gym , exercise daily . But I wonder whether they will lead the same healthy life style after marriage.”

I doubt it. For most Indian youngsters, gym is a punishment they endure to stay attractive to the opposite sex. Since marriage in India is the end of this game, physical fitness takes a backseat post-wedding.

Hahaha…. Abdullah, i think Ramit meant it in a friendly way :D And so did I!

Yes, i meant zakuski, we call it slightly different in my country, so I didnt know the exact Russian name of it. But i do love it, especially as a snack in between meals :)

You are right, even in the Eastern European countries the “Supersize Me” trend has started to make itself some room. I dont see it predominant for my generation, as i was telling Shaunak, but it scares me i see it more and more in our kids – their parents have started to believe a visit to McDonald’s as a super prize for good marks! :(

Dear Claudia,

As I told you earlier ‘Caucasian’ race is the most beautiful race of humans . Of all the caucasian races Russians/East Europeans are the most beautiful ( Just like mango is the king of fruits and Alphonso the king of mangoes ) . India may be the land of spices but women from Russia/Eastern Europe are the ‘Mistresses of spices’ .

It is a general observation that women from Russia/Eastern Europe are more beautiful than women from western europe . There is a reason for this occurence . In medieval times in Western Europe beautiful women were burnt alive thinking them to be ‘witches’ , but the Russian/East European gene pool is still intact and not suffered any losses . There are some American women who are very beautiful but beauty without modesty is like a violet without scent .

The best thing I like about Russia and Russian people is that although the Russians are white but they are still anti-american , anti-european in their outlook . In this era of globalization where people have become turncoats and are busy aping the west , Russians seem to have preserved their cultural identity and values . Russians have totally different brains . Russian psychology is more like that of Indians .

Dear Shaunak,

Indeed the beauty of Eastern European women has been praised many times by foreigners, sometimes so passionately that it has become a legend that each Eastern European woman must necessarily be beautiful. Strangely, nobody gives a damn about how handsome our men are :D

But for women it can be sometimes a burden. I don’t know about Russia, but here we have such a cult for beauty and staying beautiful/staying fit/staying young (physically) that it becomes a complete nightmare for normal women who don’t match the “required” standard! I know so many cases of girls who are overweight or not so attractive by the present standards, which are left un-married. And no man here gives a damn about how honest, devoted or family-oriented women they could be. “If she’s not thin and attractive, I’m not interested! I am not satisfied with little!”, i heard many of my school mates or colleagues say. Of course, there are exceptions to these situations, but in general people here tend to be so shallow! :(

Now, I’ve been brought up in the spirit of apreciating beauty in all its shapes or forms. I truly believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the notion of “ugly” can’t apply to people physically. In fact, I think we are all beautiful exactly because we are different from each other. And if a woman is beautiful or not for a certain man it’s all about his taste (as Abdullah said in one of his previous comments).

To motoajikane ,

UK and USA are the worst civilizations witnessed in the history of mankind . You ( American people ) are the nation who, rather than living by the basic principles of humanity , ethics and morality choose to invent your own laws as you will and desire. You separate truth from your policies, contradicting the pure nature which affirms Absolute Authority to the Lord and Creator .

Terrorism against UK and USA needs to be praised because it is a response to injustice, aimed at forcing these countries to stop their murderous activities which kills innocent people . The origins of al-Qaeda can be traced back to 1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. Soon after the invasion, Osama bin Laden traveled to Afghanistan where he helped organize Arab mujahideen and established the Maktab al-Khidamat (MAK) organization to resist the Soviets. In 1989, as the Soviets withdrew, MAK was transformed into a “rapid reaction force” in jihad against governments across the Muslim world. Under the guidance of Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden became more radical. In 1996, bin Laden issued his first fatwā, which called for American soldiers to leave Saudi Arabia.

In a second fatwā issued in 1998, bin Laden outlined his objections to American foreign policy towards Israel, as well as the continued presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia after the Gulf War. Bin Laden used Islamic texts to exhort violent action against American military and citizenry until the stated grievances are reversed, noting “ulema have throughout Islamic history unanimously agreed that the jihad is an individual duty if the enemy destroys the Muslim countries.

So you see that it is the countries like UK and USA that are the root cause of all evil . September 11 2001 was a consequence of your own wicked actions . Terrorists like Osama Bin Laden , Abu Musab Al Zarqawi are all american creations . You ( the people of america ) created islamic extremism to destroy the soviets but your own invention (terrorism )has backfired on you .

Countries like UK and USA were responsible for the rise of Hitler , Nazism and the second world war . Russian people had a crucial part in the victory over Nazi Germany at World War II. During the war, the Soviet Union lost around 27 million citizens (Russians having the highest percentage there), about half of all World War II casualties and the vast majority of Allied casualties. According to the British historian Richard Overy, the Eastern Front contained more combat than all the other European fronts combined. The German army suffered 80% to 93% of all of its total WW2 combat casualties on the Eastern Front. Overy also wrote that it was on the Eastern Front that the war was won or lost, for if the Red Army had not succeeded against all odds in halting the Germans in 1941 and then inflicting the first major defeats at Stalingrad and Kursk in 1943, it is difficult to see how the western democracies, Britain and the US, could have expelled Germany from its new empire.

My Uncle ( mother’s brother ) has been living in the USA for the past 25 years . He has had a troubled marriage with an american women . That lady (my uncle’s wife) ruined his life . She brainwashed him not to have any kids and be satisfied with pets . By the time my uncle realised his mistake it was too late . My uncle told me that the present american generation is constituted of good for nothing , useless fellows who drink , smoke , gamble and while away their time in unproductive activities . America’s achievment rest on the laurels and hardwork of Indians and other asians who are involved in much of the research work being done in USA .

@ CG – “Of course, there are exceptions to these situations, but in general people here tend to be so shallow! :(

Blame it on evolution for making us ‘tuned’ to physical attractiveness.

@ CG – “Something really really good must’ve happened to him there :)

Happens. The few Indians who actually visit Russia end up falling in love with the country. It has a charm that bowls Indians over, the same way that Indian culture bowls Russians over. However, it would be naive to assume that Russians aren’t free from the corruption and seductiveness of Anglo-American pop and material ‘culture’.

@ Ramit – “At least they have made the efforts of gathering so much knowledge about India and it’s foreign affairs. Kudos to both of you.”

Oh don’t. I am a selfish person. My knowledge is always gathered for my own selfish ends.

@ Shaunak Goswami – “Terrorism against UK and USA needs to be praised because it is a response to injustice, aimed at forcing these countries to stop their murderous activities which kills innocent people”

Acts of wanton violence against innocent civilians can’t be praised, no matter what the cause. Bombing a public place like a train or an airport is wanton violence against civilians. It is no more just and praiseworthy than raping an innocent girl in retaliation for the crime of her wayward brother.

Dear Claudia,

You seem to have misunderstood Ramitji . I guess Ramitji must be married . Once an Indian man chooses a woman as his life partner he will remain loyal and commited to her throughout his life . We don’t foolishly ape the west and have preserved our cultural values , traditions and identity . Great countries like India and Russia do not join coalitions but create coalitions ( unlike east european countries ) . Do you know what is the current slogan in Russia ? “Marry Indian and save Russia” . Russia has a gender imbalance i.e. there are more females than males . After years of marrying american and european men russian women seem to have realized their mistake but you ( people of east europe ) will learn your lessons the hard way .

As far as eating eggs and meat is concerned we have far better vegetarian things to eat like Shahi Paneer , Dal Makhani , Palak Paneer , Malai Kofta , Masala Dosa , Uttapam etc . Our pulses ( dal ) , soya beans provide us with adequate proteins and nutrition . As such killing animals for food is against our ethics . All living forms ( including animals ) have an equal right to live on this planet . Just imagine how would you feel if tomorrow aliens from Mars or Jupiter start devouring humans as food . Just because we humans are strong and intelligent doesn’t give us the right to exploit animals for our selfish ends . Non Vegetarian food such as beef ( red meat ) is a major cause of bowel cancer , obesity , global warming , green house gases etc . etc . On the othe hand Fruits and Vegetables are good sources of anti-oxidants , vitamins and minerals that improve the immunity of the body and fight diseases ( including cancer ) .

Thanks Shaunak for pointing out the nutrition things up there. Trust me, in Biology class in school I used to be sleeping away to glory. (wish I hadn’t now, I could have answered Claudia’s questions on proteins myself)

Oh and I forgot to mention the shahi paneer too. Yummmm. I’m hungry now.

Claudia we also eat a lot of besan in winters. (don’t know how to say besan in english) Also Corn & sweet potatoes. And for most Indian households that I know of, curd is a firm part of the meals. I think curd is also called yogurt. It’s very healthy too. I’ll keep adding on more as and when I recall them.

Sangeeta’s blog is very informative. It is not fancy at all. It’s simple. It’s what you could actually make every day in your home and give dinner to your old parents with. That’s why I like it.

If you follow the link to her profile page from there, you will see she writes another ayurveda blog. The latest post she has written is about how you can extract coconut oil at home. I’d give it a thumbs up. Try reading it whenever you guys have time.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Sharell does not mind me talking about another blog on her personal space.

One more thing, in winters, we cook spinach and we call it saag in India, and we make corn bread with it. We call it makki ki roti.

(Hoping I’m correct in saying spinach is saag and corn bread is makki ki roti, if I’m wrong please correct me)

Its very healthy in winters and keeps you warm throughout the day. We also add some other veggies in the saag while cooking it and though I know how to cook it I just don’t recall the english names of all of them right now. I’m sure Sangeeta’s blog has a recipe. :) Happy cooking! :)

Ramit, again, you are a great person!

:-) To each it’s own you know. Life’s short, just have a great time & make the most of it.
