Making a Name Sign for Our New Home

My enthusiasm for moving into our new home in Mumbai, isn’t just restricted to growing vegetables and herbs. I’m even making a name sign for the new place!

This is where my dad comes in handy. He’s an incredibly useful man. A real handyman. He can make almost anything and fix almost anything. What’s more he has three sheds, filled with all the bits and pieces, and equipment needed to do it.

This morning, he took me into the number two shed to select some wood for the sign. The entrance to the shed was stacked to the rafters with wood. Fortunately, we found a piece the perfect size. My dad planed and sanded it, and it was quickly ready to be painted. We put Danish oil on the wood to bring out its natural colouring, protect it from the weather, and give it a smooth finish.

I got the letters for the sign in an art and craft shop. They’re also made out of wood. However, I painted them black to match the black wrought iron fence surrounding our new home.

After the paint has dried, I’ll stick the letters onto the wood and put the finishing touches on the sign!
