I was passing through Delhi Airport late Wednesday afternoon on my way to Uttarakhand (more about that later). As I was about to step out of the airport, a huge crowd started surging forward.
Knowing that my blog isn’t THAT popular, I wondered who could possibly be behind me. Shah Rukh Khan? The Big B?
Any guesses as to who is being mobbed by the crowd?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Art of Living guru.
As can be seen from the photo, he’s quite a diminutive fellow. He also exuded an air of calmness amongst the chaos.

did he pose just for you to take his snap? wow!!
hey did you introduce yourself? you should have.. who knows.. he might be reading your blogs
I wish! He was posing for other photographers too. I just happened to turn around and there he was behind me! I’ve actually done the Art of Living Course a few years back in Australia, so it was interesting to see him.
I was too shy to introduce myself.
Stop being Shy! You’re as popular as he is!
Oh Yay! I can do things in bold now!
“…I’ve actually done the Art of Living Course a few years back in Australia, so it was interesting to see him…”
That’s what I guessed and expected from you, ‘art of living course’…This is why your blog surprised me as to ‘the near celebrity status’ of this small (physically only) man among Indians!! He should have been more famous among ‘white folks’ who don’t know ‘how to live’. After all, we, Indians, know the ‘art of living’ very well. We do exhibit that in almost everything we do, including but not limited to, ‘a desire to worship as well as a strong desire to be worshiped!!!’ Next time you see such celebrities, please ask for an autograph (or you did already!!).
“…Oh Yay! I can do things in bold now!…”
How??
You used to do things in modesty till now!!!
ROFL!
who is the Big B??? i feel so naive
@ Ramit- do you use ??
nevermind, you probably don’t because it didn’t show
Oh, the Big B is Amitabh Bachchan — a Bollywood actor.
I was there once to behold the arrival of The Great Kali, the pro wrestler. I couldn’t believe the excitement surrounding him! But then someone told us that it was all for the media — that they bused all these people in to celebrate his arrival to make him look more important than he was. I wonder if that’s the case here.
Dave n Jenny from Our Delhi Struggle, Sri Sri Ravi Sankar is hugely popular in India, with ardent followers in India ( even in the corporate world) and he is forever calm! Love that quality in him. He focuses on The Art of Living, how to lead less stressful lives. Check him out and waiting for ur book!
“…ardent followers in India…”
Um, I have heard this before, ‘ardent followers in India’!!
“…Sri Sri Ravi Sankar…”
Why does he (and many other) use ‘Sri’ twice? to emphasize His greatness!! Well, if He uses the word ‘Sri’ one more time, that would surely make my pronunciation more ‘stressful’. I guess, then, I would also have to join ‘the Guru’ and experience his ‘stress relieving miracles’, of course, as ‘an ardent follower’!!!
hey sharell..
came across your blog when I was looking up people’s experiences with the special marriage act, and was hooked then.
Glad to know you are visiting Ukd. Have fun, and stay away from Haridwar on the 12th..unless you want your fill of the Mela atmosphere.
ciao
Is he super popular in India? Or is he more famous abroad?
omg..pretty much the same experience when i was travelling last summer from bangalore to delhi…but this was inside the airport..sharukhan and his family(wife and 2 kids) were walking out..and everyone started taking pictures of him on their phone..dumb ass me had a digital camera in my backpack but i was so surprised to be walking a few steps behind him that i totally forgot to take out my camera…dumb dumb i know..
My camera had a flat battery and I missed out on some great shots while fumbling around for a new one! But SRK….wow!
I probably would’ve been really stunned by something so unexpected too.
