This is a popular Maharastrian snack called a sabudana vada. Apparently it goes great with chutney and piping hot chai.
I first tried it when I was fasting for Sabitri Brata. My husband brought a couple of them home for me to eat. This morning he handed me another one.
It tastes a lot like a potato hash brown (albeit a jeera/cumin flavoured one!), so I quite like it. However, I find myself struggling to come to terms with the idea of it. I think the reason is because it’s made out of deep friend sago. This gives it an unusual consistency. It’s spongy! My mother also used to serve sago as a dessert when I was a child. I’d eat it as a pudding, with custard or ice cream. Therefore, having it in a deep friend snack doesn’t feel quite…. right.
