An Amusing Gift

Since the publication of my book, I’ve been on the receiving end of all sorts of celebrity jokes from family and friends.

And now, this bag from my husband! I must admit, I do like it though. It’s kinda cool. And life has been really busy. I’m looking forward to getting back to normality (and hopefully, more blog posts here too), at least until my book comes out in India!

Emerlander October 5, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Hahaha cool! I’m buying the book when it becomes available in Chennai. You’d better be careful, you might find me knocking your door for an autograph out of the blue! :D

Sharell October 5, 2011 at 6:14 pm

Ha, I’ll be waving that bag in your face!! :-P (At the very least, you must make an appointment)!

Emerlander October 6, 2011 at 7:14 am

Haha! Yes ma’am :D Will I still get the autograph if I show up late? :P

Sharell October 6, 2011 at 7:31 pm

No, but you will get a smack over the head with the book! ;-)

Emerlander October 7, 2011 at 1:04 am

I’d imagine the next day’s headline all over the country would be something like “Sharell assaults a handsome fan with a book!” I hope your not too strong physically! :P

Sharell October 7, 2011 at 8:58 am

Actually, I am. And I’ve trained in kung fu and kickboxing. ;-) True.

Emerlander October 8, 2011 at 10:31 pm

I’ll be there on time!! :D

Leia October 5, 2011 at 5:40 pm

I can’t wait to read your book! The bag is hilarious :)

I live in Dhaka btw, which is about a 30 min flight from Calcutta.

nafisa elahi October 5, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Will it be available overseas? i.e. USA?

Sharell October 5, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Hopefully eventually, but not in the near future. Every country is a different territory as far as publishing goes, and contractual negotiations have to take place (either rights deal to republish, or import/export agreement). It’s complicated. :-(

You can get the Kindle version from Amazon; and even if you don’t actually have a Kindle, you can download the free Kindle for computer program and read it there. I bought the Kindle version as soon as it came out and read it — and I really love it. It’s such an honest, well-written examination of your life, Sharrell! You are a terrific author; I do hope you write more books in the future!

Gayatri October 5, 2011 at 8:20 pm

Haha! I was totally planning on coming to Powai and stalking you!

Sharell October 6, 2011 at 7:08 am

I think I will have to employ a body guard soon!

Vanilla Chocolate October 5, 2011 at 10:18 pm

Cool bag! You hubby has a nice sense of humor :)

TAMASHA! October 5, 2011 at 10:36 pm

Tres chic!

Manali Shah October 5, 2011 at 11:03 pm

AWESOME!! I so want that bag! Could you please tell us where he got it from!! :)

Sharell October 6, 2011 at 7:07 am

Hi Manali, I don’t think there are any left. He got it from our local supermarket in Powai — Haiko. They had a whole lot of bags in stock for people to buy, because they’re now charging for plastic bags at the checkout!! I’ll keep an eye out anyway when I’m there next and see if they have any more.

I just caught up with the news of the publication of your book and as a fellow writer I want to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart! I know how elated you must feel to see it on the shelves in various book stores in Australia and I’m glad it has such a beautiful cover. I hope it soon finds its way to the US and UK.

About the bag: It’s perfect! I want one of them! A great “conversation piece.”

PS: Will you put an image and link of the book in the sidebar here at your site?

So, I wish you lots of luck and success with your book.

Bronwyn October 6, 2011 at 6:13 pm

Sharell, that bag is fabulous; you are so fabulous!

I think you’ll need more than one bodyguard when your book comes out in India… at least one will have to fend off all the other expat girls like myself who come by rickshaw to Powai for advice etc!

Really looking forward to reading it :)

Sharell October 6, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Haha, I am becoming rather alarmed. I think I might have to become even more of a recluse than what I already have… and move to a highrise tower so people can’t get in. Or maybe I can be like the Big B and wave to everyone from my terrace on a Sunday evening. :-P

Abdullah K. October 6, 2011 at 9:20 pm

If you carry this bag, you might end up in a paradox. While you send the message to normal autograph hunters, people who don’t know you will realise you are a celebrity and decide to stalk you as groupies. A bodyguard won’t do, you’ll need a security consultant to find out the right kind of security you need. *end of sales pitch*

Sharell October 6, 2011 at 9:39 pm

Oh my, you are right. :-( My safety and sanity could end up costing me more money than what my book makes!

Jenn October 8, 2011 at 10:42 am

Cute bag. It’s perfect for you. :)

ved October 9, 2011 at 9:09 am

Just found out your blog through a friend who used to live in Powai but has now shifted to Poland, his new wife’s homeland. Its an amazing blog and you have made an amazing journey in your life.Congrats on the book and looking forward to its release in india.Well, you have captured your life in mumbai so vividly that it deserves to have a movie made out of it and a Bollywood movie it should be.No offense to hollywood movie makers but when they shoot in inda they somehow try to show the ugly parts of it like poverty, dirt etc like slumdog millionaire, parts of eat, pray, love which were shot in India.Your journey seems so colourful that only a bollywood movie can do justice to it.Wow,i have written an essay, sorry for the lengthy post.

Sharell October 9, 2011 at 9:33 am

Hi Ved, welcome to the blog! It’s great to have you here. It would make a fascinating Bollywood movie for sure. Who knows, it might happen! 8)

Ha, very cool gift Sharell! About your book though, where is it being sold? In australia only? I would love to get a copy, can I pick it up in India, and if so where? Thanks Sharell,

Sharell October 17, 2011 at 9:04 am

Hi Lisa, the book will be available in bookstores in India from December this year — not long to go now! :-) Thanks for your interest. I hope you’ll enjoy reading it when you get your hands on a copy.
