Life has been busy but enjoyable lately. Yesterday, I was invited to appear at the Indus Book Group in Mumbai. My book and I were up for discussion! In contrast to the 10 or 20 people I was told might attend, there must’ve been at least 30. Gulp.
All kinds of people came — expats, other foreigners married to Indians, and Indian ladies from south Mumbai. Perhaps the most amazing woman was an American who’s been married to an Indian guy and living in Mumbai for 56 years. Never mind about me, I wanted to listen to her stories all day!
Yet, with people from all walks of life at the event, there was never a dull moment in my discussion, which ended up going for nearly an hour and half. It was wonderful to be able to exchange views and experiences with everyone about life in India.
Last night, I met up with two young women (Amitha and Aditi) who work nearby. We talked and laughed for over an hour about everything from rats to Vipassana meditation. And they gave me flowers. So special!
I feel blessed.

56 years married to an Indian man and living in Mumbai ! No small task are you up for that one Sharell ? I would also love to meet and listen to her maybe teach this old dog a few new tricks !
We’re trying to convince her to write a book! Gosh, times were so different then. She arrived by boat (and even has a funny story to go with that). Just amazing!
How nice !
Sharell, It’s Nice to read stories about your interaction with “real” people around you.
Thanks, Manny!
Why did you added hindi version??
Sorry, Makk, I don’t understand your comment.
what he meant was, why the ‘शारेल’ in Sharell शारेल..
Well, You earlier had only “Sharell” but now its “Sharell शारेल”
that way.
Yeah, it’s to try educate people how to pronounce my name. People in India think it’s like “Sheryl” but it’s actually very different.
That’s a lovely picture!!!
