Two evenings ago there was a knock on the door. It was one of the watchmen. He started speaking animatedly in Hindi. Apparently, the housing society secretary had issued a notice about all the water theft going on. And apparently, quite a bit of it had been taking place from our garden tap….

When cleaning the house, I’ve never been very thorough when it comes to dusting. Living in India has really highlighted this deficiency in my housekeeping skills. It’s a very dirty country. Dusting almost has to be done daily, as it relentlessly settles all over the house. One thing has me extremely puzzled though. That’s the amount of dust that manages to attach itself to the ceiling fans….

Mumbai’s local train service is the fastest way of getting from one side of the city to the other. If you travel during the day or late at night, when there aren’t too many passengers, it can even be quite comfortable. Travel at any other time though, and you’ll most likely find the alarming things you’ve heard about the Mumbai local to be true….
