Post image for Ingenious Indian Invention # 67 – The Lockable Tap

Two evenings ago there was a knock on the door. It was one of the watchmen. He started speaking animatedly in Hindi. Apparently, the housing society secretary had issued a notice about all the water theft going on. And apparently, quite a bit of it had been taking place from our garden tap….

Post image for India Photo – Crowd at Delhi Airport

I was passing through Delhi Airport late Wednesday afternoon on my way to Uttarakhand (more about that later). As I was about to step out of the airport, a huge crowd started surging forward. Knowing that my blog isn’t THAT popular, I wondered who could possibly be behind me. Shah Rukh Khan? The Big B?

Post image for 3 Days as a Foriegn Model in Kerala

Another day, another destination. This week it was Kerala — the famed land of meeshas (moustaches) and mundus (man skirts). I’d been persuaded to participate in a travel photo shoot for Mahindra….

Post image for India Mystery #1065: The Dusty Ceiling Fan

When cleaning the house, I’ve never been very thorough when it comes to dusting. Living in India has really highlighted this deficiency in my housekeeping skills. It’s a very dirty country. Dusting almost has to be done daily, as it relentlessly settles all over the house. One thing has me extremely puzzled though. That’s the amount of dust that manages to attach itself to the ceiling fans….

A friend of mine just sent me the link to this You Tube video. It may have been around for a while but I haven’t seen it before. It’s a performance by Revathy Sankaran, who sings regional interpretations of the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The Punjabi one at the end is particularly hilarious….

Post image for India Photo: Inside the Mumbai Local Train

Mumbai’s local train service is the fastest way of getting from one side of the city to the other. If you travel during the day or late at night, when there aren’t too many passengers, it can even be quite comfortable. Travel at any other time though, and you’ll most likely find the alarming things you’ve heard about the Mumbai local to be true….
