Yesterday I wrote about my American friend who wanted to date an Indian girl. As part of trying to understand why it was so difficult to date an Indian, he asked me about my relationship. We’re spending five days in Kolkata, where we first met and where my life started changing forever. It’s a very strange experience being back here. The place is still the same but so much has changed now. People have moved on, we’ve moved on. The same familiar faces aren’t seen out at the same familiar places anymore….

Fear and apprehension welled up inside me as the plane commenced its decent into Kolkata. It wasn’t going to be my first time in India. I’d been there twice before. To me, India felt like and old yet unpredictable friend. One whose behavior I could never be sure of, but I liked anyway….
